A Note from the Artistic Director
Welcome, and thank you for spending your evening with us.
At 100A Productions, we care deeply about the process of making theater, and about the artists and audiences who make that process possible here in San Antonio. Tonight is an opportunity to come together around that shared work: to encounter a play, listen closely, and see what emerges when actors and an audience bring their imaginations into the same room.
There is something especially fitting about gathering for Conor McPherson’s The Weir in this way. Set in a rural Irish pub, the play draws us into an evening of conversation and unsettling stories. Beneath its humor and its hauntings, I hear an invitation to consider what we reveal when we tell a story, and what we offer one another when we truly listen.
A staged reading brings us close to the essentials: language, an actor’s choices, the space between people, and the attention of everyone listening. It makes room for discovery without requiring every question to be settled. For an Industry Night audience, it is also a chance to step outside our own rehearsals, deadlines, and productions and reconnect with the curiosity that brought us to this work.
After the reading, I hope you’ll stay for the conversation. Bring your questions, your observations, and whatever surprised you. There is no single response we are looking for; the exchange between artists and audience is part of why we wanted to gather.
Thank you to everyone for bringing this reading to life, and to each of you for being here. Whether you make theater, support it, or simply love an evening of storytelling, you belong in this conversation.
Let’s listen together.
With appreciation,
Rick Frederick
